10.3.11

Today was the first "official" day of opening up Ailana's Shop in Waikiki. I woke up around 9:30 am and ate a little bit, then went for a quick run before I had to meet Aaron in town. He said to meet around 12, so when I got there the sandwich lady next door, Melissa was there. I called Aaron, but unfortunatley the stove in the back wasn't working so he was at home brewing up the syrups. So, I was there by myself making mochi balls. Haha...kind of a tedious job, but around 1;30-2pm, Kim comes by. YAY! another person to help me make the lil' mochis. Because I was there for like 2 hours, I was hungry so I got to go on a break and walked around town in search of a yummy place to eat...and I think I really found one, Marukame Udon. It's like cafeteria style where you get to order the type of udon you want and choices of tempura. I got Ontame Bukkake Udon and tempura veggies. It was freaking good and the best part of it, was that it only cost me $5.75, which is even better! haha

Udon with softboiled egg, tempura flakes and green onions,
plus tempura veggies on the side, all for $5.75.

By around 3:30-4, Aaron comes by with the cooled syrups and then later Uncle Gene (owner of the original Ailana's) comes too. He's here to teach us the ropes before he sets us free. We mostly prepped, figured out where to put signs, pefecting the syrups, figuring out the cash register and all that. Then around 5ish Gene treats us for dinner at Grylt which is a semi-healthy fast food joint. It was actually pretty good, I had grilled chicken, grilled veggies and mashed potatoes with NO butter/dairy. It reminded me of mom, thinking that she could eat at this place. After dinner the entire gang comes by and we start making some shave ice for them. By the entire gang, I'm talking about Aaron's family which consists of 20+ people. It was actually a good thing because it attracted some customers and we got our very first customer!! Woo..a couple from San Diego. haah. It was pretty exciting, we got a few people that looked at the signs but didn't take the bait...wahh. At around 7pm I decide to leave because it was getting late and I was going to meet up with Kent for drinks and to watch Hawaii 5-0. Soo, I say my good-byes and venture out to Kapiolani fields where apparently Glen and Lauren have a softball game. By the time I get there, around 7:30, I give them a call and realize that they aren't even there yet. LoL. They were taking the bus, but the bus came late so, were they. I watched a few innings, watched Glen get thrown out then left around 8;15pm because I had to meet up with Kent at Apartment 3 in town. It was a nice little lounge that apparently plays Hawaii 5-0 every monday and has pupus and drink specials for $5.

I got to meet some of his co-workers and see how excited they got when the show came on. It was actually pretty exciting because he would explain to me where each shot was taken place. Kent basically looks for the locations to shoot the shot, he also has to negotiate with the people they shooting the property at and discuss with the directors if this was what they envisioned. Pretty neat if you ask me! haha. We had a pizza, a few drinks and chicken wings. I didn't want to drink much because I had to drive all the way back to Kailua, so I didn't. :) We chit chatted for a little bit, Kent said that I should come down one day to be an extra! haha I was down for that. LoL. After we talked for a bit, I ventured my way back to Kailua. While on Pali Hwy though I spotted a AMR emt truck, which reminded me of my buddy Mr. Brett Chin. So, I had to catch up to the Ambulance and take a picture of it. Haha

it's blurry because I was driving....
but at least you can semi-see what it looks like!

Another day of Shave Ice making! haha Good night everyone.
